James Patrick McCoy

James "Jim" Patrick McCoy, a spirited soul and beloved member of the community, left this world on May 5, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky, surrounded by the warmth of his friends and family. Born on November 1, 1965, Jim’s life was a vibrant tapestry woven with passion and creativity.

Jim dedicated numerous years to his career at Harbour Freight, where his hard work and dedication were evident to all who crossed his path. Beyond his professional life, he was an assistant paleontologist, which led him to share his knowledge and enthusiasm on the popular science show PaleoWorld. The joy he found in sharing his passions was infectious, and his colleagues and peers admired his commitment to both science and education.

His journey through education began at Waggener High School, after which he earned his GED and pursued further studies at the University of Louisville. Jim's thirst for knowledge never waned, fueling his desire to become a prolific writer; his creative spirit shone brightly in his scripts and novels, captivating readers with his imaginative storytelling.

Jim was not only a remarkable professional but also a loving father and devoted friend. He shared a special bond with his daughter, Ariana (Tim) Shockley, and adored his grandson, Cecil Shockley, who were lights in his life. He surrounded himself with loving extended family, including Kevin L (Felicia) Jones, Melvina Jones-Reed, and Kyson Taylor who will miss his energetic presence and kindness dearly.

Anyone who knew Jim would describe him as enthusiastic, kind, honest, generous, and loyal. His fun-loving nature and boundless energy attracted friends and family alike, drawn to his warmth and compassion. There was never a dull moment in his company; his laughter filled the air and his zest for life inspired all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In addition to his impressive career and relationships, Jim had an enduring passion for reading, particularly the works of J.R.R. Tolkien. His love for the Lord of the Rings trilogy reflected his adventurous spirit and imagination. As a collector of vintage toys, he found joy in the nostalgia they brought, honoring his childhood while cherishing the memories attached to them.

Jim is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Herma McCoy, and his father, William McCoy. Their legacy of love and support undoubtedly shaped the incredible person he became.
