James Kevin Wilkerson was born on August 10, 1958 in St. Louis, Missouri to the union of the late Julius Charles Wilkerson, Sr. and Nannie Lou Bond-Wilkerson. He was the eighth born of ten children. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister, Donna Brown; brothers, Julius K. Wilkerson and Myron Wilkerson.
James matriculated through New Albany-Floyd County Public Schools and eventually earned the General Equivalency Diploma. James went on to serve in the United States Army, serving time in Germany and various other places. This was the beginning of his love for travel.
James gave his life to the Lord and was baptized on October 19, 2008 at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church in Louisville, Kentucky—the home church of much of his family, past and present. He was a member there until his passing.
James went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 22, 2015 at the Charles George Veterans Medical Center in Asheville, North Carolina. James had a fun-loving spirit, which made him a favorite amongst his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and others. His laugh will be forever etched in the memories of those who knew him.
James leaves to cherish his memory: his wife, Patricia Wilkerson; daughter, Millie Ragland; step daughter, Laketa Johnson; two stepsons, Herman Johnson and Byan Johnson; and four grandchildren. Also sharing loving memories are four sisters, Jacquelyn McCain, Judith Drummond, Diane Harris, and Deidre Wilkerson; and two brothers, Marvin Wilkerson and Julius C. Wilkerson, Jr. (Sandra), and a host of other family and friends.
Visitation will be from 11 AM to 12 PM on Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church (3315 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY 40216). His Funeral Service will be at 12 PM at the church. Burial will take place at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery (Central) in Radcliff, KY on Monday.
