James "Jim" E. Meyer

James “Jim” E. Meyer, of Sellersburg, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2026, surrounded by the love and warmth of his family. He was born on September 12, 1948, in New Albany, Indiana.

Jim lived a life defined by hard work, honesty, and deep devotion to the people he loved. He was a proud graduate of Our Lady of Providence, Class of 1966, and went on to earn his associate’s degree from Sullivan University. He also proudly served in the Army National Guard, carrying that same sense of duty and commitment throughout his life.

A self-employed carpenter and home remodeler, Jim built his life with his hands and his heart. He was a true jack of all trades, someone who took pride in honest work and in the satisfaction of creating, repairing, and improving. He enjoyed data processing, was a devoted IU fan, and loved working on his lawn mowers. Whether tackling a project, solving a problem, or lending his skills where they were needed, Jim was happiest when he was busy and making something better.

Above all else, Jim was a devoted father, a loving grandfather, and a loyal brother and friend. He was hardworking, straightforward, and steadfast in the way he cared for others. One of the greatest joys of his life was watching his family grow and thrive, and that joy remained at the center of who he was.

He is survived by his children, Grant Meyer (Nicole), Michelle Shoemaker, and Taylor Meyer. He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren, Maverick, Valerie, Makenna, Maxwell, Francis, Reagan, and Rylee. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Butler (Ricky); his brother, Thomas “Tommy” Meyer (Joni); and his sister, Alma Rose Marks (John). Their bond as a family was an enduring part of Jim’s life, and his memory will remain close to all who knew and loved him.

Jim was preceded in death by his second wife, Nancy Meyer, as well as by his father, Edward B. Meyer, and his mother, Bertha Meyer.

Jim will be remembered for his strong hands, his direct way of speaking, his generous spirit, and the quiet, steady love he gave to his family. His life was one of dedication, resilience, and care, and his memory will continue to live on in the family he cherished so deeply.

A memorial gathering will take place at a later date.
