James "Jim" William Johnson, aged 78, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on January 27, 2026, in the city he called home. Born on May 22, 1947, in Des Moines, Iowa, Jim was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many.
Throughout his career, Jim dedicated over 22 years to User Friendly Media in sales, where he developed deep connections with his clients whom he cherished as family. His passion for his work and unwavering commitment to service were hallmarks of his professional life.
Jim was a proud graduate of Urbandale High School and continued his education at Grandview University in Des Moines, Iowa, shaping a lifelong pursuit of knowledge.
In addition to his career, Jim shared a diverse array of interests and hobbies. He enthusiastically embraced Tae Kwon Do alongside his son, Eric, where the duo participated in numerous tournaments and proudly earned their black belts under the guidance of Grand Master Young Sik Choi. Jim's love for outdoor activities shone through his time spent boating on his Pontoon and attending Louisville Cardinal Football games. His adventurous spirit extended to traveling, allowing him to explore new places and create lasting memories with his family. Faith was an important part of Jim's life, and he joined Southeast Christian Church in 2002. He was in the Easter Pageant multiple times, and he loved his bible study, the Lifeline Class.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years, Luanne Johnson; children Holli Long (Mike) and Eric Johnson; grandchildren Matthew Long and William Long; sister Deborah Scott (Mark); and brother Kenneth Johnson.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Barbara Johnson, and his brothers, Michael Johnson and Norman Johnson, Jr.
Visitation will be held on February 6, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 PM at Chapel in the Woods, located at 1407 Moser Rd, Louisville, KY 40299, with burial following at Brookland Cemetery in Shepherdsville, Ky.
