James “JED” E. Davis, 91, passed away on October 13, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana. He was born on January 6, 1935, in Leevale, West Virginia.
Born in West Virginia, JED moved as a teenager to Indiana with his parents. It was there that he soon found the love of his life, Roselee, and the love they shared became the beginning of a beautiful life together. Their years as husband and wife were the foundation of a family that meant everything to him.
JED was a hardworking and dedicated employee of the Indiana Army Ammunition Plant, where he served in countless roles over the course of more than 60 years. After retirement, he returned to work as a security guard for the property that would come to be known as River Ridge Commerce Center. JED also served as a special deputy for the Clark County Sheriff’s Department. His steady commitment to his work reflected the same dependability and strength that those closest to him knew so well.
He was also a proud member of Masonic Lodge 40 in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where he received an honorable award from The Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of Indiana in recognition of 50 years. That milestone spoke to his loyalty, character, and the respect he earned over a lifetime.
Outside of work, JED found joy in working on cars, tinkering with small motors, and admiring his red trucks. He never met a stranger and was known as a jokester whose warmth and easy way with people left lasting impressions wherever he went. Traveling to see family in West Virginia was always a special time for him, and the love he had for his family was truly the joy of his life. He loved them fully and lived that love every day. JED was baptized at Walnut Ridge to accept Jesus as his lord and savor on August 11, 2024
He is survived by his sons, Steve Davis and Allen Davis; his grandchildren, Tyla (Jeremy) Gernert, Steven (Shelby) Davis, and Melissa (Daniel) Moody; his great-grandchildren, Penelope, Dalton, and Callie; his sister, Wanda Davis; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Roselee Davis; his parents, Homer and Nellie Davis; his brother, Benny Davis; and his daughter-in-law, Elaine Davis.
