Jim Hillenbrand died February 22nd peacefully at his home with family by his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Jim was President and owner of AVC Security, Inc. fka AV Concepts, Inc. for 32 years.
Originally from Evansville, Indiana he proudly served in The United States Air Force before receiving his Masters Degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN.
Jim brought a zest for life, enthusiasm and a great smile to all who knew him. He loved hiking and camping with his sons Josh and Chad. He also enjoyed our Edgewater Taylorsville Lake House. He was an avid barefoot skier, loved aerobatics, scuba diving and BMX biking in his earlier days.
He is survived by his wife and best friend of 19 years Linda (Herrick) Hillenbrand, 3 sons Blake (Brook) Hillenbrand, Chad Hillenbrand and Joshua Hillenbrand. His siblings Pete Hillenbrand (Connie), Father Tom Hillenbrand, Sister Mary Lee Hillenbrand, Bill Hillenbrand(Linda) and many beloved nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Leo Hillenbrand, mother Rose Marie Hillenbrand and his brother Father Mike Hillenbrand.
Jim was actively involved until his illness with The Boys and Girls Club, The Optimist Club of Louisville, Sales and Marketing Executives and assisted with The Cystic Fibrosis annual dinner.
Jim fought with dignity a series of rare blood cancers since 1999. Always with a smile and a joke and usually a hat was involved! We can't thank enough our friend and oncologist Dr. Mike Kommor who always looked outside the box. The nurses at CBC and Baptist Home Health and Caretenders. Special Thanks to our caregivers Sylvia Johnson and Shirron Clayton who have helped us faithfully over the last 3 years.
In lieu of flowers Jim asked that expressions of sympathy be made to Meghans Mountains Charitable Foundation in memory of Meghan Steinberg or The Wilbur Thornton Memorial Fund in honor of our late brother in law Wilbur Thornton.
Jim requested cremation and a memorial service will be held on Monday, February 29th at Southeast Christian Church in the chapel at 1pm.
Visitation will be held prior to the service from 11:00am until 1:00pm. Interment will be held on Tuesday, March 1st at 10am at Kentucky Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Radcliff, Kentucky with Military honors.
