James Willard Dettman, known to many as Jim, passed away peacefully on October 5th, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, at the age of 72. Born on October 22, 1951, in Rochester, New York, Jim lived a life full of love, dedication, and joy.
Jim graduated from The Aquinas High School in Rochester and went on to further his education at the University of Dayton. He later earned his Master’s Degree from the Rochester Institute of Technology. His professional career was marked by a remarkable 40-year tenure at Eastman Kodak Company, where he made significant contributions and formed lifelong friendships.
A devoted husband, Jim shared a beautiful life with his beloved wife, Kathryn. He was a loving father to his daughters, Laurel (Alicia) and Julie, and found immense joy in his role as a grandfather to Sutton, who brought him great happiness.
Jim had a passion for golf and cherished the time spent on the golf course with his friends, often participating in and winning tournaments. In his youth and young adulthood, he was an avid bowler and was very proud of his “299 ring,” a testament to his skill and dedication to the sport.
Jim is survived by his wife Kathryn, daughters Laurel and Julie, granddaughter Sutton, nephew Travis, and a host of nieces. He is predeceased by his parents, Catherine Hinder Dettman and Willard James Dettman, and his brother, Charles Frederick Dettman.
Jim’s legacy of love, devotion, and joy will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew him. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
A Memorial gathering will be held, November 2nd, 2024,10:00 am to 11:00 am with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am at Christ Church United Methodist, 4614 Brownsboro Road, Louisville, KY 40207. With a luncheon to follow.
