Mr. James (Jim) Carman of Anchorage, Kentucky, died on June 13, 2020 at the age of 86.
Jim was born on May 3, 1934, in Wheaton, Illinois. His parents, Jack and Frieda Carman, raised Jim and his brother John through the great depression, World War II, and the post-war years. Jim received his Bachelors of Science degree at Carleton College in Minnesota. He was a lifelong contributor to Carleton College and attended his 50th-anniversary graduation celebration in 2006. Jim went on to a long and successful career in the food industry, first at Carnation Milk Corporation in Los Angeles, California, and then with Kentucky Fried Chicken in Louisville, Kentucky.
In 1956, he married Patricia LaSalle, and the couple had son Mike, son Bob, and daughter Kathie in quick succession! They raised their children in idyllic southern California, taking advantage of their surroundings by camping, visiting National Parks, beaches, the backyard pool and playing sports. Jim was an Eagle Scout and led his boys in Cub and Boy Scout activities. After moving the family to Connecticut in 1974, the whole family took up golf, which became a lifelong passion for Jim, Patty, and all three children. After relocating to Louisville in 1978, Jim joined the Owl Creek Country Club, serving as Committee Chair for a number of years. Upon leaving Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1991, Jim volunteered for Habitat for Humanity, traveled with Patty, and played quarter-per-hole money games of golf with his buddies at Owl Creek. Jim was a long-time member of the Anchorage Presbyterian Church.
After Patty's passing in 2012, Jim spent the final 8 years of his life with Judy Curry of Anchorage. Judy was his dear friend and companion.
Jim is preceded in death by his wife Patty. He will be loved and missed by surviving sons Mike (Jessica) and Bob (Cindi) and daughter Kathie (Rosann), his grandchildren Curtis (Adrienn), Madalyn (Andrew), Jessie, and his two-month-old Great-Grandson Henry Curtis Steffan.
Memorials may be sent to Anchorage Presbyterian Church, PO Box 23316, Anchorage Kentucky, 20223.
