James Oliver Boyd, Sr.

April 5, 1931 — May 29, 2017

James Oliver Boyd, Sr., 86, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Monday, May 29, 2017. He was a United States Army veteran and retired from the United States Postal Service. James enjoyed working on cars and shooting pool, as well as playing cards. He had a passion for dancing, possessed a great sense of humor, and could be described as a family man.

He was born on April 5, 1931, in Newberry, South Carolina, to the late Murrell and Mattie (Wilson) Boyd. James was also preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn (Walker) Boyd; son, Stephen Lindsey; and siblings, Murrell, Jr., Dale, Leroy and his wife Thelma, Frankie, Brady, and Daisy Boyd, and Helen Nixon.

James is survived by his children, Cheryl Tilman (Edmond), Brenda Jones, James Boyd, Jr., Betty Perry, Crystal Boyd, Thomas A. Boyd (Twanda), Teresa Holloway, and Annette Holloway; brother, Thomas L. Boyd (Narvis); sisters-in-law, Annabelle and Mamie Boyd; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

All services will be private. James will be laid to rest at New Albany National Cemetery. The family requests that contributions in his memory be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675-8517).
