James Gerald "Train" Bartee, Sr.

April 21, 1971 — June 7, 2025

Louisville, Kentucky

James Gerald "Train" Bartee, Sr., 54, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital.

James was the baby of nine brothers and sisters. He graduated from Jeffersontown High School where he played basketball for all 4 years of  high school. He then attended East Mississippi Community College where he also played basketball. He then returned to Louisville where he started his career at Kroger, working his way up to Produce Inspector at Kroger Distribution for more than 20+ years. He was a huge sports fan and never missed a Steelers football game. James loved spending his free time fishing, rain or shine, alone or with a friend. It was his way of relaxing. He was very proud to share by hosting fish fries for his family and friends. James was a tender hearted gentle giant that never met a stranger. His fun loving personality touched and inspired everyone around him. His memory will last a lifetime.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Avery Brown; father, Frank Bartee; and sister, Lisa Loraine Bartee.

James is survived by his wife, Angela Kay Bartee; his son, James Gerald Bartee, Jr.; his daughter, Jessica Morgan Bartee; his brothers and sisters, Sandy Lee Brown, Frank Bartee, Jr. (Gwendolyn), Jacqueline Bartee Brown, Andre Terrell Bartee, Jerry Cornell Bartee (Neva), Ricky Dale Bartee (Nora Luckenbill),  and Yolanda Yevette Bartee; as well as many nieces and nephews.

We would like to express our deepest appreciation for all the prayers, love, and support that we have received from our family and friends. That is what has given us strength to endure this season of life.

We would like to thank the medical team at Norton Brownsboro Hospital and Hosparus Health of Louisville for the care, peace and comfort provided for James. We also extend a heartfelt thanks to all of our coworkers at Barton House for your encouraging words and continued support during our absence.

A celebration of life for James will be held at a later date for family and friends.
