Jacob M."Jake" Engle

Jacob M. "Jake" Engle, 89, of Floyds Knobs, died Saturday morning, December 21, 2013, at Floyd Memorial Hospital. Jake was an active member of St. Mary's Navilleton Catholic Church and was retired from Bruce Fox after 48 years of service.

Jake was born in New Albany, IN on September 23, 1924 to the late John E. and Julia (Bezy) Engle. He is also preceded in death by his son, James "Bird" Engle; sister, Bertha Payne; and half-brothers, Charles and Mark Jefferson.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Martha L. (Missi) Engle; children, Kathy Potts (Roy), Karen Sheriff (Mike), John Engle (Chris) and Karol Kupper (Michael); daughter-in-law, Tina Engle; sisters, Viola "Girlie" DeVore and Lorene Curtsinger (Ken); 14 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 1 to 8 PM Monday, December 23, 2013 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with a Prayer Service at 1 PM. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Tuesday at St. Mary's Navilleton Catholic Church (7500 Navilleton Road, Floyds Knobs, IN 47119) with burial to follow in the church cemetery.

Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to St. Mary's Navilleton Catholic Church or the American Cancer Society (701 West Muhammad Ali Boulevard, Louisville, KY 40203).
