Jackie Monteen Callaway, a beacon of love, independence, and undeniable spirit, passed into eternal rest on March 21, 2026. Born on June 24, 1947, Jackie’s life was a tapestry of vibrant colors—much like the paintings and drawings she so lovingly crafted with her own hands. Her creativity was a quiet song in her soul, reflected not only in her art but also in the delicate embroidery she stitched and the sparkling crystals she lovingly collected, each piece a testament to her rich inner world.
For over 35 years, Jackie stood at the helm of Catfish Haven, a place she owned and nurtured with unwavering dedication. Through her strong will and sassy demeanor, she carved out a legacy of warmth and tenacity, a sanctuary echoed by the countless patrons who found comfort within her doors. Her essence was larger than life—fierce yet tender, independent yet deeply connected.
Jackie's proudest accomplishments were the triumphs of her family. She celebrated surviving the journey of marriage with her beloved husband, Curtis, a testament to her strength and enduring spirit. Above all, her heart swelled with pride for her children and grandchildren, the living proof of her love and perseverance.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert and Leila Callaway and her brother, Steve Callaway.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories her husband Curtis Ables; daughters, Sean (Mickey) Cosgrove, Carla (Donnie) Keith and Donna (Michael) Crouch; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; siblings, Vickie Payton, Mike Payton and Jole Reinhardt.
A remembrance gathering to honor Jackie’s spirit will be held on March 27, 2026, from 12pm until 8pm in the evening at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southwest Louisville, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272. Here, those who cherished her will come together to share stories, laughter, and tears—a collective memory of a woman who left an indelible mark on every life she touched.
Jackie Monteen Callaway’s journey has ended, but the echoes of her loving kindness, unyielding strength, and spirited independence will forever stir in the hearts of those who knew her. She was a beautiful storm of love and sassiness, a woman who lived boldly and loved fiercely, leaving behind a legacy as radiant as the crystals she adored and as enduring as the strokes of her paintbrush.
