Jack "Sarge" Coan, 80, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on Monday, October 24, 2016 at his home. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky on March 3, 1936 to the late Ralph Clyde and Pauline Janette Coan. He was a veteran in the United States Army and an active member in FOP Lodge 14. In 1990 he retired as Sergeant with the Jefferson County Police Department with over 30 years of service. After retirement, Sarge become Chief of Police with the City of Woodlawn Park for 12 years.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Helen Louise Coan; and two siblings, Richard Coan and JoAnn Tanner.
Jack is survived by his children, Douglas (Michele) Coan, Susan (Rodney Beeker) Mathews and David Coan; four grandchildren, Jordyn Coan, Franklin (Stephanie) Mathews, Sarah (A.J.) Barger and Emily Mathews;
and a host of other family members and friends.
A service to celebrate his life will be at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 28, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway with entombment in Evergreen Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations are suggested to the FOP Lodge 14.
