Irvin D. Hitner, 79, went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 19, 2016 at his home. He was a faithful member, elder and Sunday school teacher at Georgetown Christian Church for 40 years and Scottsville Christian Church for the last 20 years. Irvin was a "jack of all trades" and was known to greet everyone with a loving hug. He loved the Lord and was passionate about preaching the Gospel with his words but most of all, his actions.
He was born on July 2, 1937 in New Albany, IN to the late George & Lucille (Meriwether) Hitner. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Daniel Hitner.
Irvin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Glenda (Sparrow) Hitner; daughters, Kim Mitchell (Pudgy) and Karen Dallas (John); son, Mike Hitner; grandchildren, Amie Bradford (Robbie), Eric Mitchell (Rebekah), Kristin Hitner, Whitney Hitner, and Corey Dallas (Abby); and 7 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 PM Thursday, December 22, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Funeral Service will be at 11 AM on Friday at Georgetown Christian Church (9420 State Road 64, Georgetown, IN).A private burial will follow at a later date at Wolfe Cemetery in Georgetown.
Memorial contributions in Irvin's memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (501 St. Jude Pl, Memphis, TN 38105-9959).
