Pansy Irene Shaw, age 97, passed away on January 28, 2016, after a long and happy life.
Irene was born on December 20, 1918 in Beaver Dam, Kentucky to the late Amelia Rhea and Estrel Carden and had two sisters and four brothers, all of whom are deceased. At age six, she moved to Louisville with her family and grew up in the south end. She graduated from Ahrens Trade School in 1936 and went on to marry the love of her life, Chester E. Shaw, in 1938, at the age of 19. He passed away in 2003 after sixty-five years of marriage.
Irene is survived by her three daughters; Pamela Wunderlich, Janice Keller (Jack), and Cynthia Matherly (Stephen). She is also survived by six grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. She was dearly loved and will be sorely missed but she will always be in our hearts. The family would like to thank the excellent staff at The Forum at Brookside for the loving care they have given her for the past ten years. The family would also like to thank the dedicated staff of Hosparus for their care and assistance.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, Kentucky 40243) from 10:00am until the time of the funeral ceremony at 1:00pm with burial immediately to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Hosparus of Louisville.
