Irene Akers Jordan was born December 19, 1932 in Hazard, Kentucky to Jessie and Mae Akers and went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 28, 2020 in Louisville, Kentucky. She graduated from Vicco High School in 1952 (Vicco, Kentucky) where she was a member of the BETA Club, before graduating from Louisville Business College.
She met her future husband on a blind date in Louisville. They married October 2, 1954 and started their family the following year. They enjoyed traveling, camping, cruising, motorcycles, dancing, and all the joys of life. Irene was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed.
She retired from Jeffersontown High School in 1994 as bookkeeper. Previous to that she was employed by the City of Louisville and Premier Plastics, and a homemaker for many years. After retirement she went back to work for JCPS part-time, and took ballroom dancing and organ lessons. She was a member of Spencer Christian Church in Fisherville, Kentucky.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 44 years Adrian P. "Buddy" Jordan, parents Jessie Akers and Alta Mae (Wooten) Akers, and sister Imogene Akers McClanahan.
She is survived by her son, Rodney W. Jordan (Kathy), daughter Sherri Lynne Kelien (Darrell), 4 grandchildren, Amy Seabolt (Montey), Melissa Schlegel (Mike), Nicole Filburn, and Ryan Jordan; 7 great-grandchildren, Luke Seabolt, Benjamin Jordan, Audrey Seabolt, Nolan Seabolt, Noah Robertson, Aurelia Jordan, and Milo Schlegel.
Visitation will be on Thursday, September 3, 2020 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions East Chapel (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243).
Visitation will also be held from 9:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am on Friday, September 4, 2020 at the funeral home with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
The family wants to express their deepest thank you for the care and compassion shown by the staff at Baptist Health Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers the family asks for contributions to her church, Spencer Christian Church, or to Baptist Health Palliative Care Unit.
