Hugh J. Convery, 82, of Morehead, Kentucky, formerly of Madisonville, Kentucky passed away on January 21, 2018. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Hugh received a law degree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law. He then went on to run a private practice, serve as the County Attorney, City Judge & City Attorney in Madisonville, KY for a period of over 20 years. Hugh then became the head of the Department of Public Advocacy in Morehead, KY for an additional 27 years and was a faithful member of Jesus Our Savior Catholic Church. Along with all of that, Hugh was a very avid golfer.
He was born on February 20, 1935, Cleveland, Ohio to the late Hugh and Patricia (Callaghan) Convery. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tom "Butch" Convery.
Hugh is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sandra L. Convery; children, Hugh John Convery (Karin Mack), Heather Joy Powell (David), Shannon Lynn Convery (Jonathan Fairfield); sister, Patty Ann Janus (Ronald); brother, Gerald Convery (Barbara); brother, Terry Convery (Sherry), brother, Tim Convery (Peggy); grandchildren, Elliane MacConvery, Hugh Jacy MacConvery, Bradley Powell, Benjamin Powell, Savannah Fairfield, and Teddy Fairfield.
Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Thursday, January 25, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church (129 W. Daisy Lane, New Albany, IN). His Mass will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the church with burial to follow at Holy Trinity Catholic Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana.
