Helen D. Reed passed away peacefully on September 9, 2026, in Georgetown, Indiana, surrounded by the love and warmth of her devoted family. She was born on February 15, 1935, in McKinney, Texas, and will be remembered as a woman whose life was marked by devotion, kindness, and deep love for those around her.
Helen worked diligently for many years as a telephone operator for AT&T, bringing to her work the same steady dedication and strong character that shaped every part of her life. She was hardworking, honest, compassionate, loving, and deeply devoted to her family. Those who knew her will remember her as a loyal wife, a loving mother, and a compassionate grandmother and great-grandmother.
Her greatest joy was found in her family. Helen loved spending time playing with her grandchildren, and one of her proudest accomplishments was watching her family grow and succeed. She also loved her flowers, found strength and comfort in her faith, and enjoyed spending time at her church. She had a special gift for making the holidays meaningful and memorable, creating moments her family will carry with them always.
Helen is survived by her beloved husband, Marvin Reed; her daughter, Kimberly Heck, and Kimberly’s husband, Pete; and her son, Jeffrey Reed. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Jeff Heck, Jenna Troutman and her husband, Tim, and Andrew Reed, and eight devoted great-grandchildren. In the love she gave so freely and the example she set so faithfully, Helen leaves a lasting legacy that will continue in the lives of all who were blessed to know her.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Hattie Howell, and her father, Claud Burd and her six beloved siblings.
Visitation will be held on September 16, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, Indiana 47150. A funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m., with burial afterward at 2:00 p.m., at Kraft Graceland Memorial Park.
Helen will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered for the warmth she brought to her home, the faith she carried in her heart, and the enduring love she shared with her family.
