Helen M. Holstner, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on September 28, 2026, in New Albany. She was born on February 14, 1930, in Floyd County, Indiana, and lived a life marked by faith, service, and deep devotion to her family.
Helen was a graduate of New Albany High School and continued her education at the University of Louisville, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in education and became a teacher. She worked for many years as a teacher with New Albany-Floyd County Schools, a calling that reflected her generous spirit and dedication to others. Over the course of her life, she also served as a bookkeeper for Roswell Airforce Base, sold tickets at Church Hill Downs, and started her own tax company. In each role, she brought diligence, warmth, and a strong sense of purpose.
Her faith was a guiding force throughout her life. Helen was a proud member of Floyds Knobs Christian Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for more than 45 years. She was also a Deaconess and one of the first elders of the church. Her commitment to her church community was recognized with a Deaconess Amideast award. She had a strong faith and loved to share the word of God with anyone who would listen, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Beyond her work and ministry, Helen found joy in the simple and meaningful pleasures of life. She enjoyed traveling, loved chocolate, and never lost her enthusiasm for yard sales. She volunteered with hospice and was always ready to help others, offering kindness and compassion in ways both large and small. Above all, spending time with her children, grandchildren, and family was the joy of her life.
Helen is survived by her daughter, Carol Tucker; her grandchildren, Megan (Josh) Tucker, Michelle Tucker, David Holstner Jr., and Lauren Holstner; her great-grandchildren, Colten Hill and Madilyn Gary; and her daughter-in-law, Kim Holstner; and 19 nieces and nephews. Together, Carol Tucker, Megan Tucker, Michelle Tucker, Lauren Holstner, David Holstner, Jr., Colten Hill, and Madilyn Gary were an important and cherished part of her family circle, and Helen’s love for them was steadfast and enduring.
She was preceded in death by her son, David Holstner; her father, Alfred McDaniel; her mother, Evelyn (Carl Sr.) Hunn; her grandparents, Claude and Bessie Jackson; her brother, Robert McDaniel; her sister, Linda Cook; her sister, Mary Goode; her brother, Carl Hunn Jr.; her sister, Betty Henry; and her brothers, L.
