Harriett Smith, a devoted mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend, passed away on March 12, 2026, leaving behind a lasting legacy and a void in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Harriett Smith was born on July 7, 1947, in Louisville, Kentucky. She was raised in Louisville, where she spent most of her life building a foundation centered on family, love, and hard work. She attended Central High School and graduated with the Class of 1966. Harriett later retired from General Electric, where she dedicated many years of faithful service. Her life was a reflection of strength, resilience, and unwavering love for those around her.
Harriett was known for her warm and kind spirit. She was a strong woman who would do anything for her children, grandchildren, and family. She took great pride in making sure her loved ones were cared for and happy-especially during the holidays-bringing joy to Christmas and every special occasion. She found happiness in life’s simple pleasures, including playing bingo, reading magazines, shopping-especially for household items-and enjoying her favorite foods like fried chicken, Big Red, and Grippo’s. She also loved watching Tyler Perry movies and episodes of Law & Order, which brought her comfort and relaxation. Her presence brought joy and reassurance to those around her, and her love will forever remain in their hearts.
Preceded in death, Harriett was the beloved daughter of the late Roscoe Smith and Mattie L. Smith. She was also preceded in death by her son, George Randall Rice Jr.; her brother, William Martin; and her sister, Dorothy J. Sims.
Harriett leaves to cherish her memory her loving son, Shawn Amith; her grandchildren, Natoshia Caldwell, Daisha Reed, Kiara Lewis, Randell “Nukie” Rice, Infinity Pullen, Ranesha Rice, Ronesha Rice, Zariah Forrest, Keilani Oliver-Rice, Katherine Oliver-Rice, Randell Michelle Rice, Shawn Smith Jr., and Tamycha Burrell; along with a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.
Harriett’s love, strength, and legacy will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
