Our beloved husband, father, brother, PaPa, Harold Eugene “Gene” Bennett, 90, went home to be with Jesus on August 18, 2024. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in The Lord gave him great support and peace throughout his life.
He was born October 29, 1933 in English, Indiana to Susie and Lester Bennett. Gene graduated from Morgantownship High School in 1952, and went on to serve our country in the Navy from 1952-1956 on the USS Radford (DD-446). Upon returning from the Navy, he started his career in the finance business and shortly after met the love of his life Vicki Wells, on a double date in 1959. They wed August 20, 1960. They moved from Louisville, KY to Jeffersonville, IN when Gene accepted a position at Clark County State Bank in Jeff. During his career he received many accolades for work at the bank and in the community. Gene and Vicki resided in Jeffersonville for 27 years before returning to Louisville, KY.
Gene is survived by his beautiful, devoted wife, Vicki Bennett, and their three children and spouses: Greg and Haylie Bennett, Gina and Tom Enyeart, and Andy and Colleen Bennett; ten grandchildren: Chelsea (Bryan) Slade, Alye (Jeremy) Duncan, Brett (Haley) Bennett, Cassidy (Steven) Reese, Katy (Ben Reynolds) Enyeart, Jack-Harold Enyeart, Jake (Sloan) Bennett, George Bennett, Alex Hickman, Abby Hickman; and six great-grandchildren: Jeremy Duncan Jr. (10), Ethan Duncan (7), Cameron Slade (5), Lewis Reese (2), Hattie Slade (2), and another baby girl due in February; and his sister, Norma Hess.
He is welcomed to heaven by his parents, his stepfather Hubert King, his sister Linda Gibson, and his best friend Jack Uhl, who likely said “I’ve been waiting a long time for you, Bennett.”
Gene loved to fish, golf, and watch his kids, grandkids, and the Braves play baseball. But above all, he loved his family with his whole heart. The only person he loved more than his family was Jesus, and Gene replicated the love Jesus had for him for those he knew and he brought joy to everyone he loved. Gene and Vicki were members of Southeast Christian Church, where they attended for over 40 years, and where he worked/volunteered in the SECC Activity Center for many years after his retirement from the bank. When his time came, he carried himself with dignity, strength, and love for those he left earthside.
We will miss him dearly. Please join us on Thursday, August 22, 2024 at Chapel in the Woods, 1407 Moser Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40299 for the visitation from 1pm to 3pm and the Funeral Service at 3pm. Burial will follow at Floydsburg Cemetery in Crestwood, Kentucky.
