Habakkuk Ann Day Powell, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the age of 70.
Habakkuk was born on August 13, 1955, and throughout her life, she shone with an unwavering faith in the Lord. As an active member of Christ Temple Christian Life Center in Louisville, she lent her spirit, warmth, and devotion to her faith community, forging meaningful connections and uplifting those around her.
Those who knew Habakkuk will remember her vibrant personality and eye for style. She delighted in shopping and was admired for her impressive sense of fashion, with a particular fondness for accessories, gloves, and hats, always presenting herself with poise and distinction. Her talents extended into the kitchen, where she was a great cook, sharing her love through meals gathered around her table. Habakkuk also possessed an adventurous spirit, having traveled the world with fond memories those journeys provided.
Above all, her heart belonged to her family. She is survived by her devoted husband, Wilson Powell, Jr.; her daughters, Nikisha Heath, Joi Jenkins, Charmaine Jenkins, and Christina Pitts (Dexter); her sons, Johnathan Powell and Timothy Powell; twelve cherished grandchildren; as well as her sisters, Constance Porter and Charlene Day, and her brother, Reginald Day, Sr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and good friends.
Habakkuk was preceded in death by her father, Arthur; her mother, Beatrice Whitney Day; her son, Terrance Jenkins, and six brothers.
Habakkuk’s wishes were to be cremated. Details of a service celebrating her extraordinary life will be shared in the coming days.
