Grant H. "Pete" Peterson, (aka, Scotty or CW4), 74, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on August 28, 2017.
Born on January 27, 1943 in Dundee Scotland as Danny Higgins to the late George and Edith May Higgins. Entered the United States by sponsorship of the Peterson and the Haynie families of San Diego, CA where he changed his name to honor them.
He joined the Royal Navy at age 16. Pete volunteered to enlist in the US Army, retired as a CW4. During his stint he fulfilled three combat tours (2 by order, 1 by volunteer) in Vietnam as a pilot of a combat Huey UH-1 heliocopter. He earned 2 Bronze Stars, a Purple Heart, and the Distinguished Flying Cross. He later did time in the Air National Guard, and the Army Reserves totaling 39 years of service. He has stockpiled countless medals, ribbons, awards, mementos and letters of gratitude from around the world.
He spent several years as a foreman at the old International Harvester, and then worked as a Production Manager at the former Naval Ordnance. In his spare time he was always working, helping family members or friends do any odd job needed, especially painting.
Pete was an active member of the Masons, first joining the Grand Lodge of Scotland. He is a Master Mason (3rd Degree), former member of Fairdale Lodge 942, and current member of Highlands Lodge 865.
Pete was well known for his generosity, witful comedy and heroism.
Pete is survived by his loving wife, Gayle Peterson; children, Kent Conder (Mary Lynn) and Treva Werner; grandchildren, Evan Marie Conder, Maria Conder, Olivia Conder and Madeline Werner.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 12 noon at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243). Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 1, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville Chapel.
