Gloria Mae Smith

Gloria Mae Smith, 88, of Salem, Indiana, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2026. Born on July 23, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Roscoe, Jr. and Lillian Yates Smith. Gloria was lovingly raised with the support of her grandparents, Clyde and Alma Yates.

A devoted mother and grandmother, Gloria leaves behind her daughters, Kathy Jaynes and Brenda Wood; her grandchildren, Mark Leister, Jr., Cheryl Rice with her husband Corey, Tyler Wood and his wife Jenna, Hannah Morrison and her husband Adam, along with Matthew Wood and Jenny Wood. Her legacy also includes her eight great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Gloria enjoyed a fulfilling career at Norton Kosair Children's Hospital before retirement. She was deeply involved in her community, attending Lincoln Hills Christian Church for many years and actively participating in the Young at Heart organization. In her leisure time, she found joy in solving puzzles and reading.

Family and friends may call on Friday, October 2, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions in New Albany, with continued visitation Saturday after 10:00 a.m. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home, followed by her burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville.

She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, and her brother, Roscoe Smith, Jr. (Mary). Her family and many friends will remember her warmly for her love and dedication.
