Gilbert Warren Searcy, Jr., affectionately known as "Gil," passed away on January 5, 2026, at the age of 79. He was born on March 14, 1946, in Lexington, Kentucky to Gilbert and Dortha (Shryock) Searcy.
Gil attended SMU and Tennessee Tech on track scholarships before transferring to the University of Kentucky to finish his degree in accounting. For 27 years, Gil served as the Director of Tax Compliance for Brown-Forman Corporation, where he was known for his unwavering commitment to his work. He was a member of Southwest Louisville Rotary Club and Tax Executives Institute.
Outside of his professional endeavors, Gil was a man of many interests. He had a profound love for UK Basketball, enjoyed playing golf, gardening, and was an avid baseball fan. He loved traveling across the U.S., visiting national parks. A fan of country music, he always looked forward to attending the CMA Fest, and he often shared his love for all things Margaritaville. Gil also found joy in coaching softball for Prairie Village and Dixie Dynamite, alongside his best friend, Ron Crigler. He was a proud supporter of the Louisville Zoo where he made many memories with his children and grandchildren.
Gil is survived by his daughters Pam (Tyler) Hunstad and Becky (Brandon) Townsend, as well as his step-daughters Pam (Dan) Fritsch and Mary Asbury, grandchildren: Trey Carpenter, Brady Searcy, Levi Graves, Shelby Hunstad, Libbie Hunstad, Hanna Hunstad, Victoria (Maven) Asbury-Avila, Samantha Asbury, Shaun Fritsch, and Wesley Gale. He also leaves behind two great-grandchildren and one sister, Donna Bell.
Gil was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 20 years, Mary Diane Searcy.
Services will be at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville. Visitation will be held on January 13, 2026, from 4 PM to 8 PM, and again on January 14, 2026, from 9 AM to 10 AM, followed by a funeral service at 10 AM. A graveside service will take place at Resthaven Cemetery at 12 PM.
