Geri Ann Davidson Spenton
On June 29th, 2021, Geri Spenton slipped away to join her beloved Mother in Heaven. As her tired body was left behind, her spirit lives on forevermore to watch over the ones she loved.
Geri was born March 4, 1946 in Louisville, KY. She was one of five children. Her parents, Albert and Laura Stone Davidson have gone before her to warn heaven of her arrival. She left behind her husband, Kenneth Spenton, whom she met while cruising the hot spots….I know this because she was babysitting Steve and I. When she spotted a hottie, she made us get down in the floor and hide.
Ken and Geri have two boys, Josh Spenton (Amy) and Chris Spenton. She loved her boys more than anything in this world!
Few people in this world will be blessed with the privilege of having such an extraordinary sister as Geri. She leaves sisters, Alberta Watkins (Larry), Nancy Stanford (Tom) and brothers, Steve Davidson and John Davidson (Dottie).
There are also a host of nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews who adored their Aunt Geri. Nephews, Jay Watkins (Shelly), Matt Watkins (Heather), Jeremy Davidson (Heather), and nieces, Kourtney Hall (Brandon) and Laura Davidson. Great Nieces and Nephews, Hope and Dylan, Corbin, Camryn and Chase, Deacon and Bristol , Jayden and Maddie, and Great-Great Niece and Nephew, Addie and Mayson.
Geri was quite the prankster. It was nothing to wake up on your birthday to find 40 homemade buzzards in the yard and hanging from the trees. On another occasion when a certain sister got married, Geri prepared to decorate the getaway car. When Alberta and Larry came out to start their honeymoon, the car had been decorated with shoe polish and tin cans. The only problem was Geri had talked some of Larry's college friends into joining in on the fun. They had moved a large log in front of the car and unbeknownst to them it had a very large bee's nest inside. After what seemed like forever waiting on the bees to settle, the log was moved and off they went. Any other time the story would end there, but not with Geri. She followed them to their hotel. The next morning, she came to the house and picked up Steve and I. Off we went to find their car which they had washed shortly after leaving the reception. (Geri would never let a chance like that get by). So once again we exercised our God given right to re-decorate. We just didn't factor in the heat index. Yep, you guessed it! Baked on shoe polish! To this day I wonder if some "Corvair" aficionado has at some time gotten the light just right on the back window to read "Just Married"!!
Josh was always bringing home a friend or two before the weekly Friday night football games. First it was 1 or 2 and before you knew it, Geri was feeding the whole front line. No one was ever turned away or left hungry. We have no idea how she did this on a single parent budget.
Geri's life was built on "giving" not taking. She was always helping someone in need. She really is the lady who would give you the shirt off her back. There were numerous occasions when she would see someone who was cold and would them her coat…always saying "they needed it more than I did".
One Christmas she said she needed to leave our family gathering. Geri had found another single mother with 4 young boys who were not going to have anything for Christmas. She not only bought clothes, toys and food but paid for their electric to be turned back on.
Geri was the "perpetual yard saler", never passing on a good deal even if she or anyone she knew would ever need or want the item she was buying. "It was still a good deal".
The family had a private celebration of life as Geri request. She was cremated because she said she did not want anyone looking at her saying "Oh she looks so good". We really think it was because she never found a really good deal on a casket at a yardsale.
Geri always enjoyed putting pin wheels, balloons and flowers on Mom's grave. I think she would be honored, if when you think of her you would find someone who needs cheering up and take them flowers. That's just the way she was.
I know there was a thunderous applause from the angels in heaven when she took her last breath on earth and God was standing at the gates with open arms saying "Great job my faithful servant, Great Job".
Please visit her guest book for we will be posting her life in as many pictures as possible and feel free to add a few of your own.
On a final note, the woman who suffered to raise two boys on her own through almost constant migraines and back aches is now in the arms of Jesus, dancing with mom.
She is my hero, my sister, my best friend.
