Gerald Zane Wells

Gerald Zane Wells, 81, passed away on May 19, 2018. He was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and a man of faith. Zane was a chemist for over 30 years at ALCOA where he was instrumental in developing rocket fuel for the space program. He was an avid gardener, loved all animals and a diehard Hilltopper fan. With Zane's passion for words and language, he solved over 10,000 crossword puzzles, many of which were the challenging New York Times version. His generosity was unmatched as he was always the first to offer support for those in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladstone and Cynthia Wells and sister, Jennie Lou Hawk.

Zane leaves behind to cherish his memory his wife, Mary Alice Wells; daughters, Suzanne (Phil) Hanley, Amy (Bob) Shults and Jill (Tony) Wells Specchierla; grandchildren, Jacob (Amy) Hanley, Whitney Hanley, Meredith (Jason) Sterrett, Erin (Keith) Holloway, Nathan Shults, Robert Shults and Caroline Specchierla; great-grandchildren, Kadance Young, Willow Young, Harper Breinning, Hayden Hanley and Cooper Holloway; brother-in-law, Marvin Hawk and nieces, Lori Toler and Kimberly Hall.

Visitation will be Tuesday, May 22, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY from 1pm-8pm. A celebration of Zane's life will be Wednesday, May 23, 2018, beginning at 11am at the chapel of the funeral home.

Burial will follow at Bonnieville Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The family thanks the nurses and staff of Hillcreek Rehab for their care and compassion in his final years.
