Gerald Tyrone Oten

Gerald Tyrone Oten was born November 9, 1962, at St. Thomas Hospital in Nashville, TN to Irvin "Billy" Oten, Jr and Norris Coleman Oten. Gerald was proceeded in death by his parents, grandparents, Irvin B, Sr. and Elnora Oten Crite, and George and Emzie Coleman. Gerald was educated in Metropolitan Nashville Public School System. He graduated from Maplewood High School in 1981. He loved playing sports and football was one of his favorite sports while in school.

Following high school, Gerald attended an apprenticeship program through the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee sponsored by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and became a certified Journeyman Electrician. He became self employed in this profession and worked in this capacity until his death. Gerald lived a simple life. He met and married Yolanda Oten who also preceded him in death.

Gerald's passion for his profession as an electrician was only rivaled by his passion for cooking.

One of his favorite meals was the taste of a great seafood broil. He loved being around family and those he considered family. Although he did not get to Nashville and Chattanooga often to see family, when he did, he loved to talk and reminiscence with family and take walks down memory lane looking at family pictures and hearing and telling childhood stories.

Gerald leaves to cherish his memories, devoted companion Tracey Flint, brothers, Michael Johnson, Irvin (Theresa) Oten, Ill, niece, Portia Johnson, nephews Marcus Johnson, Irvin (Bedengere) Oten, great nieces Morgan Johnson, Trinity Johnson, uncle, Charles (Loretta) Coleman devoted cousins, Dewayne (Toshebia)Burnette, Valeria (Donnie) Horton- Frierson, Jason Pillow. He also leaves to cherish his memories, devoted friends Brian Wilson, Darryl Churchhill, Love Turner, Mark Shaw, Mark Montgomery and a host of other relatives and friends
