Gerald "Jerry" W. Kopp Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed peacefully at his home in Louisville, Kentucky surrounded by his loving family on August 4, 2025. Born on November 6, 1953, in Corydon, Indiana, Jerry embraced life with a warm spirit and an infectious personality that made him a friend to all he met. He was known as someone who “never met a stranger” and was revered for his skills as a jack of all trades.
Jerry enjoyed a variety of hobbies that reflected his vibrant character. He had a passion for collecting stamps and coins, cherished moments spent fishing, and delighted in relaxing with a cold Miller Lite. Jerry also enjoyed Coca-Cola and his chocolate donuts. He was also an avid Indianapolis Colts fan. Jerry also had a special bond with his baby sister and was known for his playful teasing, always bringing joy to family gatherings. He devoted his time to creating lasting memories with his family and friends, which were a central part of his life.
Throughout his years, Jerry found deep pride in his service to his community. He was a proud member of VFW Post 3281 and American Legion Post 42, and he was previously involved with 40 & 8, where he built friendships that would last a lifetime.
In addition to his loving wife, Betty Kopp, Jerry's legacy will continue through his children: Gerald Kopp Jr., Sonia (John Minton) Kopp, Rebecca (Barry Sr.) Page, and Margaret (Asa Glade) Kopp. He was a cherished grandfather to Timothy, Erica, Austin, Amber, Raven, Barry Jr., Ayden, and Huxley, and he was also a great-grandfather to Deontae Jr. and several other great-grandchildren.
Jerry is survived by his brother, William (Marlene) Kopp, and his sister, Leisa (Randy) Meriwether, along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who will miss him dearly.
He is preceded in death by his beloved sons, Timothy T. Kopp and Stewart Kopp, and his grandson, John T. Embry, Jr. He is also mourned by his parents, Donald and Mary Kate Kopp, and his brother, Danny Kopp, Sr.
The visitation for Jerry will be held on Friday. August 8, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 6:00 PM, both at the Newcomer Funeral Home in Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN.
Jerry’s warmth, dedication to his family, and unique spirit will leave a lasting impact on all those who had the privilege of knowing him. His memory will be cherished in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
The family requests that contributions in Gerald "Jerry"’s memory be made to Sons of American Legion Post 42.
