Georgenia Heckman

Georgenia "Genie" (Buckner) Heckman, 81, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away at her home on February 16, 2016. She was born on March 18, 1934, in Louisville,Kentucky, to the late David "Mac" and Gertrude (Self) Buckner. Genie was a graduate of Kentucky Baptist Hospital School of Nursing and worked for Jewish Hospital for 48 years. She was a member at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in New Albany. Genie was a great caregiver and enjoyed reading and crocheting.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Deborah Nall; brothers, William "Bill," James "Jimmy," and David Buckner. She is survived by her loving husband of 55 years, Raymond L. Heckman; children, Sherry (Michael) Quinn, David (Kathy) Heckman, Gary (Linda) Heckman, and Carol (John) Goodman; sister, Margaret "Maggie" (Ken) Oester; 9 grandchildren, Lisa Pennington, Melanie Cook, Vanessa Kennedy, Chris Heckman, Sarah, Scott, and Ben Heckman, and John and Chloe Goodman; and 7 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be on Friday, February 19, 2016, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150). Her Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, February 20, 2016, at St. Paul Catholic Church (218 Schellers Avenue, Sellersburg, Indiana 47172) at 11:00 a.m. with entombment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
