George C. Visser

July 1, 1934 — May 19, 2025

Louisville

George C. Visser, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, friend and Christ follower passed away at home on May 19, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on July 1, 1934, in Brooten, Minnesota, George was the son of the late Steven and Bertha (Dykstra) Visser. He was preceded in death by his siblings Kenneth Visser (Elsie), Arlene Bos (Hank), Richard Visser, Stanley Visser, and Maurice Visser.

George dedicated his career to the construction industry, exemplifying hard work and dedication throughout his life. He worked as a laborer, hod carrier, carpenter, and eventually served as a superintendent at Stevens Contractors until his retirement. In retirement he enjoyed repairing lawn mowers. His craftsmanship was not only evident in the structures he built around the Louisville area but also in the personal homes he helped create for his three daughters. George’s efforts and perseverance in his profession were a testament to his loyal and steadfast character.

A proud veteran, George served in the United States Army from 1955 until 1962. He is very proud of his granddaughter "Clarabell" who is currently serving in the United States Navy as a MH60 helicopter pilot. His commitment to service reflected his loving and faithful nature, which he extended to all aspects of his life. Known for his handyman skills, he could fix almost anything, and his hobbies included fishing, hunting and tinkering in the garage. He and Carolyn belonged to a camping club for over 40 years where they traveled the United States. Notably, George enjoyed competing in lawn mower tractor pulls, showcasing his competitive spirit and love for friendly rivalry.

George's personal life was rich with joy and laughter, particularly in the company of his family. He cherished time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, creating lasting memories that will be treasured by those he leaves behind. Together with his loving wife, Carolyn Visser, George found joy in simple pleasures, like their daily visits to McDonald's for his favorite fish sandwich and half cut tea with light ice.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Carolyn Visser, and their daughters Barbara Laws (Landon), Loretta Koch (Steve), and Debbie Rembowski (Chuck). He is also survived by his sons William Visser and Steven Visser, along with his grandchildren Travis Laws, Tim Rembowski (Sondra), Cory Koch (Morgan), Clara Koch, Joshua Thompson (Serina), Alexis and Naley Visser. Great-grandchildren Oliver Laws, Reese, Maeve, and TJ Rembowski, as well as Lydia and Layton Thompson, will carry forward his legacy. Additionally, George is survived by his sister Theresa Schuer (Melvin), honorary daughters Donna Kuhn (Robert) and Michelle Ziegler (Brian), sisters-in-law Phyllis Visser and Kathy Visser, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

George Visser’s proudest accomplishments were the loving family he nurtured and the craftsmanship he perfected throughout his life. His spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him, as his legacy of love, loyalty, and hard work lives on through his family and friends.
