George A. Nightingale, Jr. 90, of Louisville KY passed away on January 8, 2018.
George was born April 11, 1927 at the old Baptist hospital in Louisville KY to the late George and Olivia Nightingale.
He enlisted in the Navy at 17 years of age and spent over a year on Tinian Island, which is a part of the Northern Mariana Islands, during WWII. George worked as a food salesman for Libby McNeal, Graham Paper Co. and Pickrell and Craig. He started his own business with two other partners called Associated Food Brokers and continued there until his retirement. He married the late Billie Jean Derickson from Keaton KY on March 20, 1954. They were married for 43 years. He was a devout member and contributor to Fern Creek Baptist Church.
George is survived by two daughters, Susan Schooler (Frank) of Crestwood KY, and Lori Buckels (Scott) of Grayslake IL; grandchildren, Bethany Schooler, Jake Buckels, Shelbi Schooler and Lucas Buckels; his brothers, Joel Nightingale of Palm Beach Gardens FL and Dr. David Nightingale of Louisville KY.
Visitation will be on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Chapel (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243).
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Fern Creek Baptist Church (5920 Bardstown Road Louisville, KY 40291) with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Fern Creek Baptist Church or American Cancer Society.
