Gene Cortez "Quack" Cherry, 58, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2021. He was a 1981 graduate of New Albany High School and an employee at Bluegrass Kesco. Gene enjoyed spending time with his family and being a Poppy to his grandchildren. He was an avid fan of the Louisville Cardinals and Dallas Cowboys. He also liked fishing and watching movies.
He was born on November 14, 1962, in New Albany, Indiana, to James Muir and the late Wanda (Cherry) Long. In addition to his mother, Gene was preceded in death by his sister, Pamela Newton; grandparents, Juel Cherry and Jim and Helen Muir; and his beloved dog, Lucy.
Gene is survived by his wife, Kelly Cherry; children, Cameron Sanders (Richelle), Kelsey Sego, Dayna Cherry, and Kendal Turner (Devin); grandchildren, Maddox Evans, Rayna Hodge, Egypt Cherry, and Jaxon Turner; siblings, Troy Muir (Tamisha) and Janet Muir; father, James Muir (Sandra); stepfather, Kenneth Long; and a host of aunts, uncles, and extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Friday, October 15, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with his funeral service taking place at 2:00 p.m. Cremation will follow according to Gene's wishes.
