Gary Lee Wells

Gary Lee Wells, born on September 20, 1960 in Russellville, Kentucky, passed away on August 12, 2026 in Louisville, Kentucky.

Gary’s life was defined by his passion for building cars and the exhilarating world of drag racing. His skill and dedication were evident to all who knew him, as he not only constructed remarkable vehicles but also raced them with a spirit of adventure and competition. Winning many trophies and awards over the years, Gary’s accomplishments on the track were a source of great pride to him, and his racing legacy will endure in the memories of those who witnessed his talents.

Known for his quiet nature paired with an expressive personality, Gary communicated much through his actions and the vehicles he so lovingly built. His rebuilt motors to go fast —they became a testament to his hard work, creativity, and unwavering commitment to his craft.

Among his proudest achievements was the building and racing of his beloved drag cars. Each victory and each trophy represented not just personal accomplishment, but also the countless hours and steadfast determination that Gary devoted to his passion.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerry Wells.

Gary is survived by his wife of 46 years, Annette Wells; mother, Irene Wells; sisters, Lisa, Rita and Jennifer "Monk" and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. 

A graveside service to honor Gary’s life will be held at Louisville Memorial Gardens - West, located at 4400 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY 40216, on August 18, 2026 at 2:00 PM. Friends and all those whose lives were touched by Gary are invited to join in remembering a truly dedicated enthusiast, craftsman, and friend.

Gary Lee Wells will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by those who knew the quiet strength and genuine spirit he brought into the world.
