It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gary Lee Turner, who left us on April 3, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on April 20, 1947, in Frankfort, Kentucky, to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Luttrell) Turner, Gary's journey through life was one marked by love, dedication, and a profound connection to his family and community.
A man of humor and warmth, Gary was well-loved for his witty, dry sense of humor. His personality was woven with kindness and strength, marked by a quiet demeanor that masked a heart full of love for his family and friends. He enjoyed serving his church and community, he especially enjoyed serving in the Louisville Kentucky LDS Temple.
Gary was known for his career with the Kentucky Legislative Research Commission for the State of Kentucky. His contributions to public service were a testament to his commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of those around him. He graduated from Franklin County High School in 1965 and continued his education at the University of Kentucky, earning a degree in Political Science in 1969.
Gary's interests extended beyond his career and into a world of hobbies that brought him joy and satisfaction. As a Ham Radio enthusiast, he reveled in the intricacies of communication technology. His affinity for computers and gadgets showcased his curious spirit. Passionate about family history and genealogy, he devoted time to cherishing his ancestors and ensuring their stories lived on through future generations. Gary also had a keen interest in collecting coins and was a skilled sharp shooter, engaging in activities that captivated both his mind and spirit.
His departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of those who loved him, but his legacy will continue through them. Gary is survived by his adoring wife of 27 years, Carolyn (Rapp) Turner, who was truly the light of his life. He leaves behind four beloved children: Joseph Kent Turner, Meridyth Harrison (James), Pamela Catharine Turner, and Robert Fitzgerald Turner. His family grew to include five adored grandchildren: Liam Robert Turner (Samantha), Aubrynn Marie Harrison, Ian James Harrison, Ashton Lee Harrison, and Makenna Elizabeth Harrison. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Marjorie Joy Turner and Ophelia Alix Turner. In addition to his immediate family, Gary is survived by many beloved members of the Rapp family, all of whom will hold him close in their hearts and memories.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 11, 2025, from 9:30 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243) A private burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens (3250 Versailles Road Frankfort, KY 40601).
Though Gary Lee Turner may no longer be with us, his spirit will forever resonate in the laughter, love, and cherished memories of those left behind. We are thankful for the time we had with him and will strive to honor his legacy through our own lives.
