Gary Skeeters

Gary Skeeters, 85, passed away on September 20, 2026.

Born on June 30, 1941, Gary lived a full life marked by devotion to his family, a strong work ethic, and a warm, easygoing spirit that brought laughter to those around him. He retired as a switchman with CSX Transportation, and he carried that same steady, dependable nature into every part of his life.

Gary found joy in the simple and lasting pleasures that meant the most to him. He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting, and fishing. He loved going to the lake and being out on the boat, and some of his happiest times were spent with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching car races and loved sports, especially as an avid UofL fan. He liked working on cars and treasured attending country music concerts or listening to country music with his wife Sue. Known as “Mr. Fix It,” Gary could fix anything and everything, a gift that reflected both his skill and his willingness to help.

Those who knew Gary will remember his personality just as much as his many interests. He was personable, witty, and loving, with a natural humor that made people feel at ease. He had a way of making others laugh without ever seeming to try. His presence was a comfort, and his way of joking and connecting with others left a lasting impression.

Among the blessings of his life, Gary was especially proud of being married for 63 years to his beloved wife, Sue. Their long marriage stood as a beautiful testament to love, loyalty, and shared memories built over a lifetime.

Gary is survived by his wife, Marlyn Sue Skeeters; his sons, Jeff (Kimberly) Skeeters and Rob (Becky) Skeeters; his grandchildren, Jacob (Kristen) Skeeters, Mariah (Ross) Ward, Katelyn Skeeters, Ryan Skeeters, and Kelsey Skeeters; three great-grandchildren, his sister, Brenda Sue Skeeters; and his nieces, Donna (Bobby) and Monica (Timmy), his grand-dog, Ellie. He leaves behind a family who will carry his memory forward with love, gratitude, and countless stories of the laughter and care he brought into their lives.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Helen Skeeters, and his father, Carlos Skeeters.

Gary Skeeters will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered for his humor, his capable hands, his faithful heart, and the deep love he had for his family.
