Gary Wayne Board, 78, passed away peacefully on October 21, 2026, surrounded by his wife, Brenda and children Teresa and Brian. Born on September 4, 1948, Gary will be remembered as a man of gentle spirit, quick humor, and deep consideration for others. No matter the circumstances, he carried a ready wit and an easy smile that brightened the lives of those around him.
Gary was a graduate of Western High School and continued his education at Western Kentucky University and United Electronics Institute. He went on to build a long and dedicated career with Bell South/AT&T, retiring after nearly 39 years of service. His commitment and steady work ethic marked much of his professional life.
Outside of work, Gary found great joy in the people and activities that meant the most to him. He loved traveling to see his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, especially for family gatherings and athletic events. He also cherished his daily trips to McDonald’s, where he spent time with friends and enjoyed the comfort of familiar company. Gary shared an inherited love of motorcycles from his parents, and one especially treasured memory was a family trip to Mt. Rushmore with Brian riding in the sidecar. Among his greatest pleasures were working at the election polls and attending civic meetings, reflecting his interest in both community life and public service.
Those who knew Gary will remember his kindness, his gentle nature, and the thoughtful way he treated others. He was extremely considerate, always smiling, and brought warmth wherever he went. His presence will be deeply missed and fondly remembered.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James W. Board and Hazel G. Weick Board, along with his brother, James M. Board.
Gary is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda Board; children, Teresa (Matt) Pfeiffer and Brian Board; granddaughters, Shelby (Zack) Mings, McKenna (Jordan) Baker and Mallory (Zach) Lewis; great-grandchildren, Tate Mings, Mattison Mings, Jensen Baker, Wrenley Baker and Moxon Mings; nephew, Terry Board and niece, Lisa Garrett.
