G W Butler, CPO (E7) USN (RET), age 84, died Thursday, July 15 2021 at Norton Brownsboro Hospital in Louisville Kentucky.
Born February 22 1937 in Lakeland FL, Doug was the second child of the late Eunice Glass Ross and Gary Clyde Ross. Doug grew up in Haines City FL. He served in the US Navy from 1958 - 1978 as a corpsman, including three tours of duty in Vietnam, retiring as Chief Petty Officer. Doug retired from civilian life in 1999. Doug learned to love fishing from his grandfather John at a very young age. This love continued throughout his life, leading him to be a tour guide with Florida Bass Federation. He was a member of AMVETS Post 61 and Moose Lodge 5, both of Louisville KY.
Doug had a great love and loyalty for his family. Doug is survived by his wife of 25 years Sherida Walls Butler; daughter Bonnie Butler Wilde and partner Rick Williams of Rockingham NC; son Jonathon Butler and partner Travis Blanton of Burlington NC; daughter Patricia Meyer and husband Jeffrey of Louisville KY; son Shane Price and wife Christy of Durham NC; sisters Lois Gonsalves of Beaver Dams NY, Merle Hancock of Bankston AL, Betty Jane Mendenhall of Nauvoo, AL; seven grandchildren, six greatgrandchildren, and many family members who all loved him dearly. He will be greatly missed.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents Eunice and Clyde Ross, brother Lucious Butler, son Timothy Butler, and grandparents Bell and John Glass.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Moose Lodge 5, 4615 Fegenbush Lane, Louisville KY on Saturday, July 24 2021, at 2:00 PM with Pastor Dave Cordrey of Life Bridge Christian Church officiating. Friends and family are invited to attend.
