Fredrick Lee Grube

May 13, 1944 — September 12, 2021

Fredrick Lee Grube, 77, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Sunday, September 12, 2021. He was born on May 13, 1944, in New Albany, Indiana, to Fritz and Juanita Grube. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth "Beth" Grube Funkhouser (James); brother, Larry Grube; sisters, Diane Taylor and Cherie Scott (Nick); brother, Brad Stevens (Cindy); brothers-in-law, Victor Peek (Diana) and Jack Peek (Tammy); and many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Susan Peek Grube; and brother, Michael Grube.

He was a son, brother, friend, hero, husband, and father. My Dad was a great teacher, storyteller, and cook and a very talented and artistic man. A man who served his country proudly in Vietnam while never fully returning home. He loved history and art and enjoyed archaeological pursuits such as arrowhead hunting. He worked with several local artists on their pieces. He instilled this love of art and history in me, his daughter, to become an art historian.

He loved building and racing motorcycles, helping to create Rosewood's track with several friends. He enjoyed classic cars, trucks, and tractors. He had a great love of nature and helped map several local cave systems for the state. Never one to sit still, he was always creating, building, or fixing something; always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. He will be dearly missed by so many as he was kind to all.

He worked for Pillsbury, International Harvester, and the family business, Grube Tile Company, to name a few. He was a devoted member of VFW Post 1693, where he and Beth cooked Wednesday dinners for many years, did repairs, helped in all aspects of the Harvest Homecoming Chicken and Dumplings fundraiser, built parade floats, and helped in many other events. In his own words, his greatest accomplishment was being a father, and it was, "The best thing that ever happened to me."

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Graveside Service will be at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday at New Albany National Cemetery with full military honors.
