Frederick John "Fred" Grauel, 70, of Depauw, Indiana, passed away on Monday, January 18, 2021. Fred was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army who served during the Vietnam War and a member of the VFW Post 1693 in New Albany. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed raising animals and being with his dogs. Fred was a great cook and loved grilling, barbecuing, gardening, and canning his famous relishes and pickles known as "Freddie's Hot Stuff." Out of all his pastimes, Fred enjoyed spending time with his family the most.
He was born on September 14, 1950, in Hardinsburg, Kentucky, to the late Donald Grauel and Adeline (Calisi) Chapman. Along with his parents, Fred is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Grauel.
Fred is survived by his sons, Bradley (Chasity) Grauel and Jeremy (Angie) Grauel; grandchildren, Lindsay Guelda, Taylor Grauel, Cody Cotton, Skyler Young, Jacob Grauel, Brooklyn Cotton, and Mia Grauel; stepchildren, Ashley Young and Evan (Billie) Young; step-siblings, Steve (Wanda) Chapman, Larry (Linda) Chapman, and Gary (Norma) Chapman.
A Memorial Gathering will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 11, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions-New Albany (3309 Ballard Lane). His Memorial Service will be at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest with full military honors in New Albany National Cemetery at a later date.
