Franklin R. Friday, 88, of Louisville, Kentucky passed away on December 12, 2016.
He was an advertising executive in Chicago, Illinois and Louisville, Kentucky for 50 years, working for Montgomery Wards, Romar- Gleeson and General Electric. For the last 20 years he was the founder and principal of Friday Associates Incorporated, and also a faculty associate at Western Kentucky University in advertising programs.
Franklin maintained official archives for General Electric and RCA corporations and authored an official history of General Electric Appliance Park called "A Walk Through the Park" (1986).
He was a graduate of West Rockford Illinois High School and attended Cornell College (Iowa) in 1946 through 1948, member of the football and wrestling teams, the later NCAA and AAU National Champions of 1947. He received a B.A. from the University of Iowa in Journalism in 1950. He was also a graduate student at Marquette University from 1954 until 1956. Between the years of 1950 and 1952 Franklin served our country in the U.S. Army and Air Force, honorably discharged as Sergeant.
Franklin was elected to the Mount Prospect, IL Library Board from 1966 through 1968. He also held numerous Republican Party positions in Cook County, IL and Jefferson County, KY. He was the area campaign chairman for Congressman Donald Rumsfeld from 1962 to 1968.
He was an officer in many civic and sporting organizations including YMCA Indian Guides, The Great Books Clubs and United States Croquet Association, leading the 1980's revival of lawn croquet in the Midwest region.
Franklin was born on October 6, 1928 in Oregon, Illinois to the late Harry and Josephine (Groenhagen) Friday. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Patricia Louise Friday, son Ayndrew Friday, brother Melvin Friday and sister Marjorie Kenney.
Franklin is survived by his sons, Franklyn Friday, Mathyew Friday, daughter, Penelopy Slaten (Roger), daughter-in-law's; Anne and Melinda, grandchildren; Nicole Applegate, Weston Meyer, Jonathan Meyer, Koryn Friday, Olivia Meyer, Douglyss Friday, Emma Meyer, Hansyl Friday and six great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband bringing his wife a rose every week for the last 30 years, and a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive, Louisville Kentucky 40243).
A celebration of Franklin's life will be held on Saturday, December 17, 2016 at 4:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home East Louisville Chapel.
