Francis Joseph Callan

January 4, 1934 — August 18, 2017

Francis "Frank" Joseph Callan departed this world on 18 August 2017.

Frank was born the 4th of January, 1934, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Frank Joseph and Margaret Mary Callan. After graduating from Northeast Catholic High School in Philadelphia, Frank volunteered for the draft in the U.S. Army. He served two years in the armor division at Fort Knox, Kentucky, from 1953 to 1955. In 1968 Frank received a bachelor's degree from the University of Louisville. He was an avid U of L fan. Frank was a member of Zachary Taylor Post 180 of the American Legion and the Irish Society of Kentuckiana. He enjoyed golfing, weight lifting, and singing with various church choirs.

Frank is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Rae Anger Callan; his seven children: Daniel, Brian (Irma Maria), David (Rosemary), Beth Walker, Ruth Reesor, Carol Ramler (Jason), and Brennan; his grandchildren: Michael, Karen, Christopher, Virginia Sue, Rebekah, Margaret, Nicholas, and Arturo; and his eight great-grandchildren; his 93-year-old sister, Peg; his niece, nephews, and their families in the northeast; his friends many of whom are from various societies, church choirs, and parishes.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Hosparus for all of their help during his final illness. In lieu of flowers, please make an expression of sympathy to Hosparus or VFW Post 1181.
