Francis Edward Wehner, age 94, passed away peacefully on June 30, 2015, in Louisville.
Born in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, July 10, 1920, to the late Edward and Leona Wehner, Frank attended St. Louis University before joining the U.S. Navy Seabees serving in the Philippines during World War II. He worked for Safeco Insurance Company in several states, and retired in 1982 from Home Insurance Company in Louisville, Kentucky. Frank was a faithful member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church; was very active in and past Exalted Ruler of Elks Lodge #8 in Louisville; and was a proud Kentucky Colonel. An accomplished outdoorsman, Frank was a skilled hunter and fisherman, and an avid sailor and sailing instructor. He and Dolores, his wife of 70 years, loved traveling and visited all 50 states.
Frank was preceded in death by Dolores; his parents; and his sister, Eloise Summers.
He is survived and loved by sons Michael Francis (Debbie) and Edward John "Jack" (Mary); grandchildren Aaron Michael Wehner (Malinda), Jessica Lauren Marino (Eric), and Elizabeth Jane Malcom (JD); and great-grandchildren Hugo and Astrid Wehner, and Story Ann Malcom.
Visitation will be Friday, July 3, 10–12 a.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown; followed by a commemorative service at the funeral home and burial at Calvary Cemetery on Newburg Road.
