Frances Evelyn (James) Downey, age 90, of Middletown, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Baptist Hospital East, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 1, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Willie Forrest James and Christine (Woods) James. Frances grew up in Bethlehem on James Ridge alongside her two sisters, Dorothy Watkins (Glenn) and Elizabeth Hinton (Alfred).
She married the love of her life, Carroll Downey, and together they shared many wonderful years building a home filled with faith, laughter, and family while raising their three daughters. Carroll preceded her in death on December 16, 2007. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Watkins.
Frances was a member of Highview Baptist Church, where her faith in Jesus Christ served as the foundation of her life. She lived her faith daily through kindness, grace, and a servant's heart. She enjoyed playing tennis for many years and treasured time spent playing bridge with her dear friends.
Above all, Frances loved her family deeply and wholeheartedly. Nothing brought her greater joy than being surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Eubank (David) of Shelbyville, Valerie Kohler (Jerry) of LaGrange, and Raven Sexton (Rick) of Louisville; her grandchildren, Aaron Eubank (Cassie), Clint Sexton (Angela), John Kohler (Kayla), Vann Kohler, Dylan Sexton (Anna), Amber Eubank, Erika Kohler, Ellie Mucci (Curtis), and Riley Sexton; and her cherished great-grandchildren, MacKenzie, Parker, Chloe, Jada, Macy, Roman, Kayden, Judah, and Warren.
Visitation will be Monday, February 9th, 2026, at 11am to 1pm followed by a celebration of Frances' life, all at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals and Receptions, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, Kentucky 40243. Burial will be at the New Castle Cemetery, New Castle, Kentucky.
Frances will be remembered for her steadfast faith, gentle spirit, and the deep love she gave so freely to her family and friends. Her legacy will live on in the many lives she touched.
