Frances Ann (Shaffer) Banet

Frances Ann Shaffer Banet, 85, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Frances was a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church since 1955 and a member of Sacred Heart Church in Punta Gorda, Florida. She sang and cantered in both churches. Frances sewed altar clothes, stoles, funeral palls, book covers and various things for those churches. She graduated from Indiana University Southeast with a B.S. in 1978 and an M.S. in 1982. She was a former member of Kappa Delta Pi. Frances taught at Sacred Heart School in Jeffersonville from 1978 to 1984 and substitute taught at New Albany Deanery Schools from 1984 to 1985 as well as Providence High School from 1984 to 1992.

She was born on September 1, 1938 in New Albany, Indiana to the late J. Lynn Shaffer and Sylvia Jacobs Shaffer. Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by her sisters, Doris Fackler and Nancy Hernandez; and great-grandson, Blake Schmidt.

Frances is survived by her loving husband of 68 years Franklin Banet; children, Pamela (Matt) Gulett, Frank (Nancy) Banet, Ginny Monohan, and Theresa (John) Poe; 18 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; sister, Shirley (Morton) Fertig; and brother-in-law, John Fackler.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Monday, June 24, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 pm on Tuesday at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church (5719 St. Marys Rd, Floyds Knobs, IN) with burial to follow at the church cemetery. Additional visitation will be on Tuesday at the church from 12:00 pm until the time of service.
