Florence Theresa Vessels

Florence Theresa (Rhodes) Vessels, 93, of Louisville, went home to her Heavenly Father on Thursday, August 20, 2026. She was born on March 29, 1933, to James Edward and Mary Agnes (Humbert) Rhodes of Rhodelia, Kentucky.

Florence was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 48 years, Garrett Elder Vessels; and her siblings, Victor Lee Rhodes, Paul Lewis Rhodes, Harry Edward Rhodes, James Robert Rhodes, Norma Catherine (Rhodes) Mattingly, Joseph Walter Rhodes, Margie Alice (Rhodes) Manning, and Mary Geraldine (Rhodes) Barr. She was the youngest of nine children.

She is survived by her four sons, Kevin Vessels (Debbie), Barry Vessels (Karen), Jeff Vessels (Tonya), and Stuart Vessels (Ingra); grandchildren, Jeremy Vessels (Shannon), Courtney (Vessels) Dulaney (Kyle), Dewayne Lush Jr., Jessica Vessels, Rob Johnson (Erin), Chris Vessels (Sarah), Lauren Vessels (fiancé, Dustin), and Morgan Vessels; great-grandchildren, Chloe Vessels, Emma Vessels, Sarah Dulaney, Kristen Lush, Taylor Lush, Jaslyn Lush, Aaron Hill, Lucas Trautwein, Ava Vessels, Jacob Johnson, and Jaxon Johnson; great-great-grandchildren, Ivory, Ayden, Kashdyn, and Mavis; and many nieces and nephews.

Florence was a faithful and active member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, where over the years she generously volunteered her time and talents for parish events and helped care for the church and rectory. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, her friends in the Friendship Club, gardening, fishing, bingo, and playing games.

Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, August 27, 2026 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville, KY 40272. A funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 28, 2026 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, 5431 Johnsontown Road, Louisville, KY 40272, with burial to follow at St. Theresa Cemetery in Rhodelia, Kentucky.
