Filberto "Phil" Vargas, 71, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Friday, February 18, 2022. Phil loved to fish at Lake Jericho and many other nearby lakes. Phil enjoyed traveling and one of his favorite times was his trips to Gatlinburg, TN. He worked at Louisville Ladder for 29 years, and Brinks Global for 10 years before his retirement. He was passionate about music and playing guitar. As a teenager he played with several bands throughout New York City. Phil proudly served in the United States Army and was a Vietnam Veteran. He was decorated with several accommodations for his bravery during combat and received the Purple Heart for his valor during the war. Phil had a jovial personality and could always make those around him laugh. He was seen by many as a father figure and will be missed by all who knew him.
He was born on February 24, 1950 in Puerto Rico to Luis and Ines (Roman) Vargas Suarez. He is preceded in death by his Parents, Sisters, Carmen Vargas, and Doris Vargas.
Phil is survived by, Sandy McCarver, Roberto Vargas, Lawrence Carmen, Brian, Kerri, and Katie. Phil also leaves behind to cherish his memory a host of Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Cousins, Friends, and Extended Family.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). A Memorial Service with Military Honors will be at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, at Newcomer Funeral Home - Southwest Louisville Chapel.
