Fannie L. Wales

February 2, 1936 — April 16, 2024

In Loving Memory of Fannie Louise Wales

Fannie Louise Wales, a beacon of love and resilience, peacefully passed away in her sleep on April 16, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born on February 2, 1936, in Meade County, the daughter of Richard and Mary Ellen Mills.

Fannie was one of many siblings: Carnelia "Kidd" L. Smith, Virginia Garner, Floyd "Pete" Benjamin Mills, Ellen Brown, Ina Rose, Earline Mills, Jimmy Mills, Alma "Tiny" Adams, Mary Brooks, Betty Perks, Richard "Emmett" Mills, and Clark Mills. Though some have passed before her, she cherished the memories of all her siblings.

Fannie was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer Murray Wales, Sr. and she was the epitome of strength as she raised her children, Teresa, Elmer Jr., Rita (Herbert), and Donna (Michael). She was a guiding light in their lives, instilling in them values of family, hard work, and perseverance. She also found immense joy in her role as "Granny Fannie" to Ashley, Brittney, Tristan, Tayler, Skyler, and Mya, and as a great-grandmother to Kaiden, Charley, and Kamdyn.

A woman of faith, Fannie found solace and purpose as a baptized Jehovah's Witness. Her spirituality was a guiding force throughout her life, providing her with strength and comfort.

Fannie's interests were diverse, from her love of socializing at Churchill Downs, spending her free time in department stores, to her passion for cooking. She was known for her country recipes and her sweet tooth - always ready to get to work on some lemon meringue pie.

Despite her stoic demeanor, Fannie possessed a heart full of love and humor, which she shared with those around her. She kept a tidy home but also had a fondness for holding onto memorabilia, adding character and warmth to her surroundings.

Fannie Louise Wales will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her legacy of resilience and love for her family will endure through the cherished memories she created with us all.
