Ezra Mark Schmitt, age 22 went to be with the Lord on Monday, June 29, 2026 after a 5 year courageous battle with Huntington Disease. He was born October 9, 2003 in Louisville, Kentucky to Mark and Stacy (Ferris) Schmitt. His memory will be cherished by those lives he meaningfully touched throughout life. Ezra’s life ambition was to be in the Army, and he loved anything related to it. He found joy in building Legos, running, fishing, camping, playing in the rain, playing Nerf, football and baseball with friends and family. His favorite teams were the Colts, Louisville Cardinals and River Bats. He loved collecting G.I.Joes, vehicles and playing video games with family and friends and Indiana Jones movies. Ezra loved to talk about the Lord and the Bible, and loved to sing hymns. When he was 14 he joined Boy Scout Troop 108 and achieved the rank of Life, attended NYLT and was a Senior Patrol Leader.
Ezra was preceded in death by his father, Mark Schmitt; grandparents, Frank and Linda Schmitt; and his aunt, Laura Woodcock.
Ezra leaves to cherish his memory his mother, Stacy Schmitt; brother, John Schmitt; sisters, Candace Schmitt (fiancée, Jacob Roller) and Gracie Schmitt; nephews, Ranger Thomas and Rydell Thomas; grandparents, Allan and Margaret Ferris; as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins.
With grateful hearts the family thanks the staff at Aperion Care Nursing, Hanover, Indiana and Hosparus caregivers for the compassionate care they gave Ezra.
