Ewell A. Combs,92,of New Albany,formerly of Elizabeth,passed away Thursday,June 28,2012. He was born Febuary 4, 1920,in Viper,Ky and was a veteran of the U.S.Marines, serving in Guadalcanal during World War II. He was a retired cabinet maker with National Homes and a long-time member of the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Katie Combs; sisters Edith Clark, Pearl Noffsinger and Anna Lee Eaker and brother, Ray.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara(Hancock); children: Janet Campbell, Shirley Rice, Patricia Pangburn, Robert Combs and Christine Collins(Jim); 10 grandchildren: Allison Smith, Michael Pangburn, Jason Rice, Kimberly Mikesell, Kerri Kemper, Jennifer Kohan, Justin, Aaron and Trent Combs and Barbara Collins; and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday, July 1 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany. Service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday July 2, at Presbyterian Church of the Covenant in Elizabeth, preceded by visitation at the church from 9:30 to 11 a.m.. Interment is at Glenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial gifts to the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant. The family would like to thank the many caregivers who gave him loving care and supported the family.
